Duckie's Rescue: Free from a Plastic Prison

10.08.2025 | Lovepawprints

For weeks, a stray cat in Kerrville was spotted with what appeared to be a biscuit can stuck around his neck. Concerned locals, including our group, were formulating a plan to help when we saw a notice from a kind woman named Nancy. She asked people to stop feeding the cat while she attempted to trap him.

We connected with Nancy and devised a plan. Skillfully, she set traps and successfully captured the cat, bringing him straight to us. However, he was far too stressed to handle while awake. Upon closer inspection, we realized the object wasn't a biscuit can at all – it was the rigid inner ring from a roll of duct tape, deeply embedded in his fur.

It was immediately clear the ring couldn't possibly fit over his head now. He must have gotten it stuck as a small kitten and been unable to free himself, forced to grow up with it painfully tightening around his neck.

Rushing him to the vet, we had him sedated so the dangerous plastic collar could be safely cut away. The vet confirmed it had likely been there for a very long time.

Meet Duckie, finally free! Exhausted but relieved, he's now safe and resting peacefully, able to sleep and eat comfortably for the first time in who knows how long.
